Greek Binding
This book is bound using a traditional Greek binding where the two halves of the book are bound separately and then knotted at the center to create symmetry.
Finished: September 1, 2008
Time to Make: 17h
Measurements: 4.5" x 3" x 1"
Techniques Used: Greek Binding
Source: Keith Smith, Exposed Spine Sewings
Materials Used: cotton linters (covers), printer paper, linen thread, wire, glass seed-beads.
Detail of one sewing section. The divide between the joined halves of the book is visible here at the middle, just beneath the center knot. This book is worked in two halves in sets of two braids that are worked simultaneously (pictured is one set). Once both halves are complete, they are joined by a knot at the middle.

Critique:
I love the look of this binding, although it is time consuming and when opened there is a distinguishable separation between the two halves, as the central knot does not quite secure the two halves together as closely as the braided sections. I plan to use this binding again, and when I do I plan to find a way to unify the book more.
